The congregation of St. James is dedicated to the worship and service of Almighty God and to the furtherance of God’s kingdom in this village, this county, and this region of the Michigan Lake Shore area.
We are a small, but vibrant church with a rich history dating back to our original service which was led by Ottawa Chief “Shaw-Be-Co-Ung” in 1858.
Our small year-round congregation consists of folks over 50 but in the summer the pews fill with younger vacationers and snow birds. We enjoy the diversity of our parish-ALL are welcome.
Our annual Chickens for Chairty Dinner is held every August giving our members the opportunity to work together and raise money for local organizations.
ABOUT PENTWATER
Pentwater was founded in 1867 and grew primarily due to the dense surrounding forests which were harvested and shipped as lumber to Chicago via Lake Michigan.
The population of 900 in the winter grows to approximately 5,000 during the summer as visitors enjoy Pentwater Lake, its connection to Lake Michigan and our pristine beaches. The village is rich in tradition – Thursday Night Band Concerts, The Annual Homecoming Week and Parade and spectacular firework shows over Lake Michigan. A popular spring to fall event is the Farmers Market held twice a week on the village green.
Our church places great emphasis on helping the community of Oceana County. St. James and its congregation’s involvement in Outreach falls in two areas: Financial assistance and donation of members personal time. We believe that serving others is at the core of our faith. So, if you’re looking to make a difference, why not join us at St. James?
