ST. JAMES EPISCOPAL
The congregation of St. James is dedicated to the worship and service of Almighty God and to the furtherance of God’s kingdom in this village, this county, and this region of the Michigan Lake Shore area.
We are a small, but vibrant church with a rich history dating back to our original service which was led by Ottawa Chief “Shaw-Be-Co-Ung” in 1858.
Our small year-round congregation consists of folks over 50 but in the summer the pews fill with younger vacationers and snow birds. We enjoy the diversity of our parish-ALL are welcome.
Our annual Chickens for Chairty Dinner is held every August giving our members the opportunity to work together and raise money for local organizations.
Pentwater was founded in the 1867 and grew primarily because of the dense surrounding forests which were harvested with the lumber shipped to Chicago via Lake Michigan.
The population of 900 in the winter grows to approximately 5,000 during the summer as visitors enjoy Pentwater Lake, its connection to Lake Michigan and the pristine beaches. The village is rich in tradition-Thursday Night Band Concerts consisting of local musicians, The Annual Homecoming Week and Parade and spectacular firework shows over Lake Michigan. A popular spring to fall event is the Farmers Market held twice a week on the village green.
St. James Episcopal Church places great emphasis on helping the community of Oceana County in every possible way. We strongly believe that lending a helping hand to others is a fundamental part of what we stand for as a faith-based organization. We are dedicated to providing financial assistance to those most in need, as well as enabling our congregation to donate their own personal time to support the community.
We believe that together, we can make a real and lasting impact that will leave a positive mark on the world around us. So, if you’re looking to make a difference, why not join us at St. James Episcopal Church?
